Yes, it’s Saturday and here’s another Bible misquote to start us into today’s text. “Money is the root of all evil.”

Today’s misquote is just that – a misquote of verse 10 of today’s reading. Many have misused that verse to rail against capitalism.

In fact, it is the love of money that is a root of evil.

Way back when I was in college, I knew a guy who purposely made just enough money to pay taxes just so he could refuse to pay it to a government that was, back then, building a very strong military.

In a sense, though wasn’t greedy, he still let money take over his life.

I have had times when I didn’t know where my next meal was coming from and times when I had plenty. I’m somewhere in the middle now.

But I’m content.

I wouldn’t mind having more money or more of the things it can buy, but I refuse to be obsessed by stuff. ButI’m thankful for what I have.
