Tuesday – Pentateuch
Reading – Genesis 4
Highlight Verse:
“So Cain left the Lord’s presence and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.”
Genesis 4:16 NLT
The first thing I noticed in this chapter was that Cain would speak with God face to face.
In fact, God initiated that contact to confront Cain about murdering Abel.
But God did not banish him, at least not in any of the translations I read.
God states the fact that Cain is banished but phrases it in such a way that it appears that the blood-soaked ground and Cain’s act itself has banished Cain.
Cain tries to say that God has banished Him when it was Cain himself who initiated the banishment through murder.
I get the sense that God is doing everything He can to restore His relationship with Cain.
But he won’t do that without Cain’s consent.
Have you given God permission to confront you with your poor judgement?
How do you react when God asks you to confess and turn around?
