Reading – Psalms 17-18
Highlight Verse:
“But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.”
Psalms 18:6 NLT
When I moved to Colorado, my van’s engine self destructed around 10pm on a Friday night, 10 miles from the nearest exit on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, in the rain, with temperatures around freezing. And I was nearly broke.
None of that can truly compare with David being pursued by Saul. I didn’t fear for my life.
But I was in distress.
My prayers that night sounded something like, “God, I’ve got nothing. I hand it all over to you.”
I truly believe that divine intervention provided the mechanic, the engine, and the funds to get the van fixed and get me to my new life in Colorado. He even threw in four days of much needed rest.
I was moving to be able to stay near my then 7-year-old daughter and to be the dad she needed.
To me, that role was as important as life itself. God honored that and answered my prayers.
I can relate to David’s thankfulness to the God who answers desperate prayers.
What desperate prayers have you seen answered?
Did that change your attitude toward God?
