Reading – 1 Samuel 13-14

Highlight Verse:

““Let’s go across to the outpost of those pagans,” Jonathan said to his armor bearer. “Perhaps the Lord will help us, for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!””
‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The first thing that popped into my head when I read this was, “Now there’s a leader!”

  • Jonathan didn’t stand up in front of the army and tell them what to do.
  • He didn’t give them some inspiring speech.
  • He didn’t even let the troops know to watch what he was about to do.

He just stepped into action that would bring glory to God and potentially save the Israelites.

He took the risk on himself and allowed his closest follower, his armor bearer to go with him.

He took the step of faith and the Lord blessed him and the Israelites victory as a result.

Now, I’m not saying you should go take on an enemy army single-handedly.

But I am saying that true leadership often requires high risk and bold actions.

Have you lead through risk taking? What was the result?
Do you have some risky decisions to make? Would success from taking those risks bring glory to God or yourself?
