Reading – John 13
Highlight Verse:
“Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end.”
John 13:1 NLT
We know that God loved the whole world so much that He sent his only son to die for us. But this is different.
Jesus, God the Son, specifically loved his disciples.
Keep in mind that this is an eye witness account from John, the “disciple whom Jesus loved” (Verse 23).
John witnessed firsthand Jesus taking the position of a servant and washing each of the disciples feet.
John witnessed Jesus graciously allowing Judah to betray him.
John witnessed Jesus predicting Peter’s denial and, later, Jesus restoring Peter.
Jesus really did show amazing care and love for His closest friends at a time when they should have been showing that love to him.
Jesus set an example for how we should love those closest to us. We would do well to follow that example.
How do you show love to your closest friends?
Is there more you should be doing or saying?
Are there those who should be restored to relationship with you like Peter?
