Tuesday – Pentateuch

Reading – Deuteronomy 11-12

Highlight Verses:

““So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, so that as long as the sky remains above the earth, you and your children may flourish in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭11‬:‭18‬-‭21‬ ‭NLT‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

As I started to write this, I realized that, while there are verses posted in various places in our home, my office/man cave had no Scripture posted.

I like to practice what I preach so I found a photo I liked from my photo library and added an appropriate verse.

Why?

This passage highlights the fact that when we see something over and over, we will remember it.

If we put Bible verses that we want to remember, where we will see them often, we are likely to remember them and put them into practice.

The same is true for wearing them on your forehead (baseball cap with a verse), or wrist (bracelet), or even your back (T-shirt).

No, I’m not going to start selling merch. There’s plenty of that out there.

There are also plenty of creative ways to remember Scripture and to prompt conversation about Scripture.

And it is something that is very easy to act on.

To make it even easier, I will post a PDF of this photo in the downloads section of the website. Feel free to use it as much as you like (just don’t sell it or remove the copyright).

Better yet, many of you will have better photos and can make better graphic designs than mine (which I threw together in a few minutes – don’t judge). Feel free to share.

Have you ever had a time when just the right verse came to mind when you needed it?
What do you do to memorize Scripture?
How do you bring it up in conversation?
