Reading – Nehemiah 5-6
Highlight Verse:
“After thinking it over, I spoke out against these nobles and officials. I told them, “You are hurting your own relatives by charging interest when they borrow money!” Then I called a public meeting to deal with the problem.”
Nehemiah 5:7 NLT
Now and then I come across something that makes me angry.
Nehemiah gives us a good example of how to deal with that anger.
• He thought it over. He didn’t just lash out in reaction. He considered the situation and plotted a proper way to deal with it.
• He confronted the offenders directly. He didn’t just spread stories or bad mouth them to others. He confronted them so they could change their ways.
• Because the situation called for it, he brought it out publicly so everyone would know the correct way to act.
Of course, I am not the temporary governor of a whole region like Nehemiah was. But I do have a sphere of influence.
Each of us has a sphere of influence.
When we see wrong within that sphere, we have a responsibility to act appropriately to correct it as we can.
Who is in your sphere of influence?
How have you made a positive impact within that sphere? (If you don’t know, ask someone within that sphere).
