Reading – Revelation 13

Highlight Verse:

“Wisdom is needed here. Let the one with understanding solve the meaning of the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭13‬:‭18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I can’t begin to count the number of interpretations of this chapter and this number.

The beasts from earlier in the chapter are deceptions put forth by Satan. They will deceive those who don’t know the One who is the Truth.

As for the number of the beast, there has been much speculation as to the identity that it is supposed to reveal.

What if it doesn’t reveal a name but a principle?

It is the number of man so the beast will relate to men rather than God.

If perfection or completion in ancient Israel was represented by 777, 666 seeks to imitate perfection but falls short.

The beast and the number appear to try to keep our eyes off of God and His completion, and to place our faith in the power of man as represented by the beast that would seek our full attention and worship.

I believe that those who are believers during the time of the beast will recognize who and what they are.

Until that time, I believe we should focus on the truth.

Just like bank tellers train with real currency so completely that they know counterfeits just by feeling them, we should train to know the Truth so thoroughly that we know the moment a counterfeit truth appears.

We don’t do that by spending large amounts of time studying ancient numerology and comparing headlines for any sign of the antichrist.

We do that by spending time in the Word of God, talking to Him in prayer, and spending time with fellow believers.
