Friday – Prophets

Reading – Haggai 1-2

Highlight Verse:

“You hoped for rich harvests, but they were poor. And when you brought your harvest home, I blew it away. Why? Because my house lies in ruins, says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, while all of you are busy building your own fine houses.”
‭‭Haggai‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In my quiet time yesterday, I started contemplating what I was going to do when I retire in a few years.

Part of my train of thought went to travel and working on projects in my workshop.

Then a thought intruded, almost like an audible voice (but not quite). Basically, it said that I haven’t even seen half the work that God will do through me.

Once I can redirect the effort away from building the foundation for our retirement, I will have the time and flexibility to concentrate on ministry.

In Haggai’s day, the people had settled into making themselves comfortable and had neglected the temple.

Today, the temple is in us and expressed in the ways we spread the good news of Jesus and bring Him glory.

As we heed the Lord’s instructions in chapter 2, verse 4 and are strong and work for the Lord, He will pour out blessings we can only imagine.

Those blessings will be eternal.

Of course, I don’t have to wait until I retire. I’ll continue my efforts at writing, sharing and teaching while praying for the right doors to open and the wisdom to know which doors to walk through.

And hopefully some of those ministry doors will involve travel, woodworking, and tinkering.

What unique ministry opportunities has God put before you?
Have you asked God what He has in store for you?
Are you willing to put in the work to touch people’s lives with the Gospel?
