Monday – Gospels and Acts

Reading – Acts 20

Highlight Verse:

“After the Passover ended, we boarded a ship at Philippi in Macedonia and five days later joined them in Troas, where we stayed a week.”
‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭20‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

You might notice that the pronouns in Acts change from place to place.

Sometimes Luke (the author of Acts) speaks of Paul by himself as “he.”

Sometimes Luke talks about the whole group with Paul as “they.”

When Luke is with Paul, the pronoun changes to “we.”

The biggest thing I see about those pronouns is that fact that Paul almost never works alone.

The Holy Spirit at work is the main reason for the effectiveness of his ministry, but I believe that Paul owes much to the fact that he worked with others as a team.

In his letters, Paul mentions and credits many other people who worked with him.

With their help, he was able to continue Gospel teaching in areas after he moved to the next location.

He had people to help take care of the logistical challenges of ministry on the road.
He had trusted people to keep him on track and accountable.

He even had a personal physician on hand who also happened to write this book.

The work of the Gospel was meant to be a team effort.

God gave different gifts to different people.

The effectiveness of those gifts working together is exponentially greater than all those individuals working separately.

While it is possible to be an isolated Christian, such a person will likely have an ineffective ministry.

Have you ever tried to be an isolated Christian? How did that work out for you?
Who is on the same team as you now in the work of the Gospel?
