Tuesday – Pentateuch

Reading – Deuteronomy 17-18

Highlight Verses:

““When he sits on the throne as king, he must copy for himself this body of instruction on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. He must always keep that copy with him and read it daily as long as he lives. That way he will learn to fear the LORD his God by obeying all the terms of these instructions and decrees.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭17‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God knew His people. Even though He told them not to appoint a King, He knew they would.

So, He set some guidelines for whom to choose and how they should conduct themselves.

This one stuck out to me when I imagined myself copying the entire Bible down by hand.

Granted, the king would only have to copy down the Torah. But that’s a lot of work.

But there’s a good reason behind it.

When I take a class, I take notes.

Mind you, I rarely refer to those notes, but I take them anyway.

That’s because the human brain remembers far more of what it processes for writing and what it hears or sees.

In the king’s case, that laid a firm foundation for his reign. The daily reading of it reenforced that foundation.

So, here’s a thought. What would happen if we committed to writing down the Gospels and Acts?

I’m willing to give it a try.

(I started when I wrote this but only got half a chapter done before my hand started cramping. That said, I’ll prefer the excuse that I have a lot of other writing to get done).

Since we don’t have Levitical Priests but we each have a direct relationship with God making us each a Priest, we can hold each other accountable if we decide to do it.

When we are done, we can post a photo of it.

Is anyone willing to try that with me? (It doesn’t have to be neat).

If you have done anything like that before how well did it work for you?

And this handwriting is why I write on a computer.
